Highgate Diving Club 097Firstly, I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our past and present Coaches, Divers, and Members over the years for their help, and enthusiasm in making Highgate Diving Club club the great success it has become.

In its prime time it was the most successful Diving club in England, and has had many of the countries top divers in the team. It can also boast to having had a member of the club competing in almost every Olympic, European, or Commonwealth games event since it’s formation at the Highgate Ponds back in 1928.

Team displays were always a very popular event,  and continued right up to the late eighties. The most successful being at the Queens Jubilee, and the Debenhams invitational (broadcast on the BBC) It was always a very special and exciting time to be a member of the Highgate team.

Training would take place at various London pools such as Crystal Palace, Ironmonger Row and Willesden. Today, we are still very active in the sport of Diving, but now a much smaller. Based at White Oak Leisure Centre in, Swanley, Kent. The facilities include a separate diving pit with 1 and 3 metre springboards, and a 5 metre platform.

Everyone involved in the club has a passion to assist in the advancement of Diving, and there is still every opportunity for anyone to reach a high standard within the sport.

Our beginner lessons start on a Sunday at 5pm and run for 45 minutes duration. This is the starter class for the grade 1 & 2 of GBDF schemes. Grades 3, 4, 5 & complete diver run in 45 minute sessions between 5.45pm and 7.15pm.

Once grade 4 is achieved you may be invited to join the club as a pre squad member which also meets on Thursday evenings between 7pm and 8.30pm.  If you have advanced past the level 5 and above you can join the club as a full member.

If you are interested in seeing what goes on at our club, please have a read of the introductory letter which  I hope will answer some of your questions.

If you have ever wanted to give it a try, why not come along to the adult sessions starting at 8pm on a Thursday. No experience is required, just plenty of enthusiasm and good humour.

Yours in Diving,

Ian Cunningham
